Giya Kancheli
Born in Tbilisi on 10 August 1935, Giya Kancheli is Georgia's most distinguished living composer and a leading figure in the world of contemporary music.
In 2009 Giya Kancheli published Simple Music for Piano, a songbook with subtitle "33 Miniatures from Music for Stage and Screen", reprising melodies written over a long period, some dating back to the 1960s and 70s.

Arvo Pärt
Arvo Pärt, born 11 September 1935, is an Estonian composer of classical and sacred music.
After 1968 Pärt re-emerged from a period of silence having found the voice for which he had been searching. The first composition in Pärt's new style was the piano piece Für Alina. The new compositional principle used here for the first time, which he called tintinnabuli (Latin for ‘little bells’), has defined his work right up to today. The ‘tintinnabuli principle’ does not strive towards a progressive increase in complexity, but rather towards an extreme reduction of sound materials and a limitation to the essential.

Peteris Vasks
Peteris Vasks was born in Aizpute, Latvia on 16 April 1946.
Vasks's compositions incorporate archaic, folklore elements from Latvian music and place them within a dynamic and challenging relationship with the language of contemporary music. Peteris Vasks was appointed as the Main Composer of the Stockholm New Music Festival in 1996.
Balta ainava - White Scenery (Winter) belongs to his seasonal pieces. Everything is white. The new year begins. The unhurried unfolding of the material is a beautifully apt atmospheric depiction of the stillness and austerity of a winter landscape.
